Byrnes v. Myrtle Beach 2017

Myrtle Beach Seahawks v. Byrnes Rebels

Nixon Field

August 19th at 6:00 pm

The Rebels made a loud statement to the SC football world on Saturday night. A dominating performance by the offense, defense, and special teams sent the Seahawks back to Horry County wondering what hit them. After a lackadaisical start, the Rebels avenged last year’s season opening loss at Myrtle Beach. The Rebels offense was well balanced. The running and passing games were too much for the Seahawks to contain. When they tried to stop the run, the Rebels would throw the ball over the top. When they dropped back in coverage, the running backs would take advantage and gash the Seahawks defense. The Rebel defense put a “goose egg” on the scoreboard for the first time in years. Their dominating performance kept the Seahawk offense at bay. Sacks, tackles for loss, and forced turnovers kept the Seahawks out of the end zone. The special teams did a stellar job at limiting return yards as well as recovering a fumbled kick. The punt team only came onto the field twice. The field goal kicking was a bit off, but they were still able to convert on one field goal during the game.

The contest was not as close at the 51-0 score would indicate. The Rebels showed poise, effort, and discipline on the field.

Come out to Greer next week as Byrnes takes on the Yellow Jackets at 7:30 pm at Dooley Field. Greer is coming off of an impressive 42-14 victory over Westside.
